West Coast Swing

West Coast Swing's roots date back to a 1930's New York City where it started as a dance called, "The Savoy Style Lindy". Named after the place where it started - The Savoy Ballroom in NY - The Savoy Style Lindy made it's way to LA after a well-known Savoy Style dancer named Dean Collins moved there. He soon started teaching 'his version' of The Savoy Style Lindy in LA and suddenly everyone was doing it. After undergoing many changes in name and confusion, Arthur Murray's dance book called the dance, "Western Swing". Since then, the modern name has evolved to what we know it as today - West Coast Swing!
